Project Summary

KNC Sustainability was engaged to update the Social Closure Plan (SCP) for the Bulyanhulu Gold Mine, aligning it with Tanzanian Mining Regulations, industry best practices, and international standards.

The project involved in-depth socio-economic studies and stakeholder consultations to assess community dependence on the mine and identify opportunities for livelihood diversification. Working closely with government authorities, local leaders, and businesses, KNC Sustainability developed sustainable livelihood projects from stakeholders’ inputs to support community resilience and economic transition beyond mine life.

The updated SCP provides a strategic framework for responsible mine closure, guiding the mine in managing social impacts and sustaining positive economic outcomes through inclusive, participatory planning.

Output & Impact

The updated SCP serves as a strategic blueprint for responsible mine closure, providing the mine with a clear, participatory, and sustainable framework for managing social impacts and promoting inclusive economic growth.

Stakeholders

Shinyanga and Geita Regions, Msalala and Nyang’hwale District Councils, Bulyanhulu, Bugarama and Mwingiro Wards, 16 villages surrounding the mine and relevant Government institutions, Employees, trade union and contractors.
